Photos of the Chinese landscape

Photos of the Chinese landscape Overpopulation, smog, cities growing out of control — these are some of the common issues people associate with China. While these problems may affect major urban centers in the country, people forget the sheer size of China, and how much it has to offer beyond the cities. China is one of the most beautiful and diverse places in the world. All around the country, alluring landscapes invite travelers to keep exploring. One of the most impressive features are the karst landscapes: a topography made up of soluble rock (like limestone) that has been eroded by dissolution creating towers, ridges, sinkholes and caves. These mystical-looking Chinese lands are one of my favorite spots in the…

Hiking through Kennedy Meadows

Hiking through Kennedy Meadows I meet with my travel buddy Ryan in California. The original plan is to get to the awe-inspiring landscapes of Yosemite National Park, but something else lands on our radar. After some research, we find some incredible images of the lesser known Kennedy Meadows and Relief Reservoir about four hours north. This leads us to alter our plans and head on a quick overnight backpacking trip into the northern California wilderness. It’s my first time backpacking in California, and I can only imagine what this hike has in store for us. 1 The trailhead area is popular for horseback riders, and we pass camps with horses tied to trees and the scent of barbecue filling…

18 gorgeous images of Virginia

18 gorgeous images of Virginia Tour any part of Virginia for long, and you can’t help but figure this is what Katharine Lee Bates was picturing when she wrote “America the Beautiful.” From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Atlantic Coast, the state is covered in picturesque landscapes, is steeped in history, features two of the prettiest roads in the US (that’d be the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah National Park’s Skyline Drive), and contains 554 scenic miles of the most famous long-distance hiking trail in the country — the Appalachian Trail. All you have to do is get here and take a look around you. Check out the images below to see what we mean. 1 Grayson Highlands…

17 images of Leavenworth, WA

17 images of Leavenworth, WA Two thousand. That’s the population of this Bavarian-themed village hiding in the Cascades, though you’d never know it. Festivals seem to be more common than not, authentic German fare — ice cold beer, fresh sausages, and giant pretzels — fills plates on every patio, and Front Street buzzes with people morning, noon, and night. Factor in the surrounding mountains, rivers, and lakes, and you’ve got some serious eye candy. Instagram gold. Which is why we can’t stop looking. Willkommen, as they say, to Leavenworth. 1 Aerial view of Leavenworth Leavenworth sits at the eastern slope of the Cascades, an area once covered by glaciers. Living conditions have changed a bit over the past 15,000…

Images of Austria

Images of Austria Austria may be a globally recognized tourist destination, but somehow, it still seems to fly beneath the radar. With powerhouse neighbors like Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Czech Republic, it’s almost understandable. But with a comprehensive rail network running the continent’s most advanced trains, and some of the most remarkable natural, historical, and cultural sites in Europe, this is one country not to overlook when planning a cross-continental journey. 1 Emperor Franz Monument, Vienna In a city as regal as Vienna, it’s easy to take the incredible architecture, landscaping, and public art for granted. It’s entirely possible to stumble into a square like the one housing the Emperor Franz Monument and think, “Hmph, another statue.” But it’s…

11 ways to unwind in Miami

11 ways to unwind in Miami I recently got the chance to spend a weekend in Miami Beach, Florida. I wasn’t sure what to expect but what I got was a whole lot of relaxation, sunshine, hand-crafted cocktails, and space to reflect. I dabbled in some spa treatments, floated in a number of pools, and treated myself to some fine dining. A lot of folks who don’t know better think of Miami as a party city, but I’m here to tell you it’s a great place to breathe, recenter, and unwind. Note: Jessica was a guest of Nobu Eden Rock Hotel, Miami Beach. 1 Two hotels, one beach front location Treat yo’ self to a stay at Nobu Eden…

What Slab City looks like

What Slab City looks like Ever since I heard of Slab City — a self-governed community located in the middle of the desert in southern California — I’d been curious as to what living here was really like. It’s been described as “the last free place in America” because there are no rules and no laws. I’d always heard that it’s a bunch of squatters, hippies, and homeless people. I spent a night here and learned that, although this is partially true, many Slabbers are also just your average, everyday people, simply wanting to get away from it all. 1 As I drove in I saw this in the distance, on the outskirts of the city. A closer look…

Epic ways to explore Juneau, Alaska

Epic ways to explore Juneau, Alaska JUNEAU, ALASKA is a little town of 30,000 people which is visited by over a million people a year. However, most of the visitors come via cruise ship and don’t spend any time properly exploring the Alaska Panhandle — their loss is a pretty big one.
